Timeless Simplicity

Project Type:

Kitchen, Dining, and Laundry Remodel

Location:

Boulder, Colorado

An unusual shaped kitchen, unused eating space, and poorly placed laundry and powder bath were the black sheep of this mostly well designed ranch style home’s floor plan. The key was relocating the various spaces to have better scale, function, and fluidity.

Firstly, the powder bathroom walls were removed opening the kitchen to the dining room. This change highlights the vaulted ceilings, increases natural light from the existing skylights, and allowed a large island with seating to be incorporated. Next, a new arrangement of the kitchen's functional areas created better storage and ease of use. The unused eating space was transformed into a laundry-mud room adjacent to the kitchen and directly accesses the garage entrance. Lastly, the previous laundry room was repurposed and divided into a large pantry and a powder bath.

The kitchen features rich navy painted and warm walnut wood cabinetry that coordinates with new stainless-steel appliances, white herringbone patterned backsplash tile, classic light gray slab quartz countertops, and accents of antique brass in the hardware and light fixtures. In the adjoining dining room, a large dramatic chandelier, stunningly deep gray and white marble pattern tiles on the fireplace wall, and a chunky walnut mantle update the space. Color coordinating and interesting finish treatments complete the new laundry-mud room and powder bath.

This remodel provides the entire home with a cohesive layout, better traffic flow, and simply timeless spaces for easy family living and effortless entertaining for years to come.
